Anthurium Andraeanum Coral Flowering – Red
Anthurium andraeanum (“Coral”) is a live indoor flowering plant known for its long-lasting, waxy red spathes and glossy, deep-green leaves. This arrangement is delivered ready to place in a ribbed ceramic pot with a shiny glaze in a muted green tone. With an approximate total height of around 40 cm and a pot diameter of 16 cm, it suits smaller surfaces where you want colour and greenery without a large footprint.
The Anthurium’s “flowers” are in fact coloured spathes with an upright spadix, held above the foliage on clean, slender stems. Indoors, this structure keeps its shape well and stays tidy between waterings. The rounded ceramic pot has fine vertical grooves that catch light softly, giving the plant a finished look without the need for an extra cachepot—useful for shelves, sideboards, and workspaces where you prefer a composed, easy arrangement.
Plant care
- Light requirements: Bright, indirect light for best growth and flowering. Tolerates medium light, but avoid harsh midday sun which can scorch leaves.
- Watering routine: Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry. Keep the root ball lightly moist, never waterlogged, and empty any excess water from a saucer.
- Humidity preferences: Moderate to higher humidity (around 50–70%) supports healthy leaves and blooms. In dry rooms, place near other plants or mist lightly.
- Temperature range: 18–26°C is ideal. Protect from cold drafts and avoid temperatures below 15°C.
Growth and characteristics
- Plant species: Anthurium andraeanum (“Coral”)
- Approximate size at delivery: Around 40 cm tall (including pot)
- Leaf / flower type: Glossy green foliage with coral-red spathes and a pale spadix
- Growth speed: Moderate with consistent light and even moisture
Placement in the home
For reliable blooms, place the Anthurium within 1–2 metres of an east- or west-facing window, or in bright light behind a sheer curtain. It works well on a hallway console where temperatures stay stable, on a living-room side table, or on a kitchen shelf away from direct sun and hot radiators. Its compact pot size makes it a good choice for smaller apartments and desks, while still reading as a complete, considered plant arrangement.
Care tips
Wipe the leaves occasionally with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust and keep the surface glossy. Remove spent spathes by cutting the stem near the base to support new growth. Feed with a balanced houseplant fertiliser every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer (half strength is usually sufficient). If you have very hard tap water, using filtered or rested water can help reduce leaf-edge browning over time.
