Phalaenopsis Orchid Albenga – Yellow
Plant description
This yellow Phalaenopsis orchid (Phalaenopsis ‘Albenga’) is a compact, flowering indoor plant delivered in a ceramic Painted Stripe pot in matching yellow tones. At approximately 35 cm tall with a Ø9 cm pot size, it is an easy fit for a windowsill, sideboard, or desk. The plant is a multiflora type, known for producing many smaller blooms along the flower spikes, giving a full look without taking up much space.
In the image, the orchid shows soft, clear yellow flowers with a warm centre and several buds ready to open. The foliage is deep green and glossy, with thick leaves typical of Phalaenopsis—built to store water and cope well with normal indoor conditions. The pot has a clean, vertical stripe pattern with a lightly painted finish that keeps the look calm and graphic rather than decorative.
Each orchid is a living product. It is delivered with 2–3 sturdy flower spikes depending on availability, and there may be natural variation in the number of open flowers and buds on arrival.
Plant care
- Light requirements: Bright, indirect light. A few hours of gentle morning or evening sun is fine; avoid strong midday sun which can scorch leaves.
- Watering routine: Water sparingly when the bark substrate feels almost dry and the roots look silvery (often every 7–10 days). Water at the base, let excess drain fully, and never leave the inner pot standing in water.
- Humidity preferences: Moderate humidity (around 40–60%). If the air is very dry, place the pot on a tray with pebbles and water (without the pot sitting in water).
- Temperature range: Best at typical indoor temperatures 18–26°C. Keep away from cold drafts and hot radiators.
Growth and characteristics
- Plant species: Phalaenopsis (moth orchid), ‘Albenga’
- Approx. size at delivery: About 35 cm tall; pot size Ø9 cm
- Flower type: Yellow multiflora blooms with buds along the spikes
- Growth habit: Slow-growing; flowers last for weeks in stable conditions
Placement in the home
For the best flowering performance, place the orchid in a bright spot out of direct midday sun—such as an east- or west-facing windowsill, a light kitchen shelf, or a side table near a window. Thanks to its compact pot size, it also works well on a hallway console or bedside table where you want a small, tidy plant that still looks finished.
Care tips
Phalaenopsis orchids prefer consistency. Keep the plant in a stable location while in bloom, and rotate occasionally for even growth. Wipe dust from leaves with a soft, damp cloth so the plant can photosynthesise efficiently. After flowering, cut the spike above a node if it stays green (it may rebloom), or remove it at the base if it turns brown. Feed with a diluted orchid fertiliser every 2–4 weeks during active growth.
