Ficus Altissima Indoor Tree – Green
Plant description
Ficus Altissima is an evergreen indoor tree with broad, oval leaves and a calm, architectural silhouette. This plant is delivered at an approximate height of 95 cm in a 21 cm nursery pot (P21), making it an easy size for floors, low stools, or plant stands. In the image, the plant shows firm, deep-green foliage with clear veining and an upright growth habit supported by a discreet stake—ideal when you want structured greenery without a wide footprint.
Ficus altissima is often chosen as an alternative to other ficus varieties because it holds its shape well and keeps a clean, leafy look when placed in stable indoor conditions. Like most ficus, it prefers consistency: steady light, moderate watering, and minimal moving once it has settled in.
Plant care
- Light requirements: Bright, indirect light is ideal. It can handle gentle morning or evening sun, but avoid harsh midday direct sun close to the glass, which may scorch leaves.
- Watering routine: Water when the top 3–5 cm of soil feels dry. Water thoroughly, then let excess drain away. Do not leave the pot standing in water.
- Humidity preferences: Moderate humidity suits it well. Average indoor humidity is usually fine; increase slightly in winter if air is very dry (for example, by grouping plants).
- Temperature range: Best at typical indoor temperatures, around 18–26°C. Protect from cold drafts and avoid prolonged exposure below 15°C.
Growth and characteristics
- Plant species: Ficus altissima
- Approx. size at delivery: 95 cm tall, nursery pot Ø 21 cm
- Leaf type: Large, oval leaves with a smooth surface and pronounced veins
- Growth speed: Moderate; faster in spring and summer with good light and regular feeding
Placement in the home
Place your Ficus Altissima where it receives steady daylight—near an east- or west-facing window is often the most forgiving. In a living room, it works well beside a sofa or on a calm corner where the foliage can read as a soft, green volume. In a home office, bright indirect light helps it keep dense leaf growth. Avoid placing it right next to radiators, under strong air conditioning, or in busy passageways where it may be bumped or exposed to drafts.
Care tips
Keep it stable. Ficus plants can drop a few leaves after a change of location. Choose a spot and allow time to adapt. Rotate the pot occasionally for even growth, but avoid frequent moving.
Use well-draining soil. A quality houseplant mix with added perlite or bark supports healthy roots. If you repot, choose a pot with drainage holes and step up only one size to prevent overly wet soil.
Feed in the growing season. From spring through summer, add a balanced liquid fertiliser about once a month. Pause feeding in autumn and winter when growth slows.
Leaf care. Dust the leaves with a soft, damp cloth to keep the surface clean and to help the plant photosynthesise efficiently.
