Ficus Benjamina Kinky – Green, White
Plant description
Ficus benjamina ‘Kinky’ is a compact weeping fig with dense, finely pointed leaves edged in creamy white. Delivered in a 12 cm nursery pot (P12) and at an approximate height of 20 cm, it’s an easy way to add calm greenery to smaller spaces—window ledges, shelves, desks, and clustered plant arrangements.
What distinguishes ‘Kinky’ from standard Ficus benjamina is its tighter, bushier growth and crisp variegation. The foliage is naturally layered, with slender stems that create a soft, upright dome rather than a tall, bare trunk. In Scandinavian interiors it reads clean and graphic: green and off-white against light walls, natural wood, and matte ceramics.
Ficus plants are known for adapting well to indoor life once they settle. Like many ficus varieties, ‘Kinky’ prefers a stable spot and consistent care—simple habits that help it keep its leaves and stay evenly shaped.
Plant care
- Light requirements: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Also tolerates partial shade, but growth will be slower. Avoid harsh midday sun, which can scorch variegated edges.
- Watering routine: Water thoroughly, then allow the top 2–3 cm of soil to dry before watering again. Reduce watering slightly in winter. Do not leave the pot standing in water.
- Humidity preferences: Moderate indoor humidity is suitable. If air is very dry (especially with heating), occasional misting or a pebble tray can help keep leaf edges neat.
- Temperature range: 18–26°C is ideal. Keep away from cold draughts and sudden temperature swings.
Growth and characteristics

Placement in the home
Place your Ficus ‘Kinky’ where it receives steady daylight without strong direct sun: a bright living room shelf, a sideboard near a window, or a home office desk. It also works well in a hallway with a light source, where its compact size won’t overwhelm the space. Rotate the pot every couple of weeks for even growth and a balanced silhouette.
Care tips
Ficus can drop some leaves after a move—this is a normal response to change. Choose a consistent position, avoid overwatering, and it will typically stabilise. Wipe leaves gently with a damp cloth to keep the variegation clear and to help the plant photosynthesise efficiently. If you want a denser look, pinch back soft tips in spring to encourage branching.
