Ficus Elastica Melany, Alocasia Wentii Set – Green
Plant description
This indoor plant set combines Ficus elastica ‘Melany’ (rubber plant) and Alocasia wentii (elephant ear), delivered with the woven Selin basket. The Ficus arrives at an approximate height of 85 cm in a Ø21 cm nursery pot, and the Alocasia at approximately 60 cm in a Ø19 cm nursery pot. Together they create a calm, green focal point with two distinct leaf shapes: the Ficus with thick, deep-green foliage and the Alocasia with large, architectural leaves and a slightly darker underside.
The Selin basket adds a natural, Scandinavian look. Its woven texture softens the plants’ silhouettes and makes the set easy to place in minimalist interiors where you want warmth without visual noise. The baskets are intended as decorative covers for the nursery pots; keep the plants in their inner pots for easier watering and to protect floors.
Plant care
- Light requirements: Bright, indirect light is ideal for both plants. The Ficus tolerates medium light, while Alocasia grows best in brighter conditions. Avoid harsh midday sun, which can scorch leaves.
- Watering routine: Water when the top 2–4 cm of soil feels dry. Ficus prefers to dry slightly between waterings; Alocasia likes more even moisture but should never sit in water. Reduce watering in winter.
- Humidity preferences: Moderate to higher humidity. Alocasia appreciates extra humidity (especially during heating season). Occasional misting or a pebble tray can help.
- Temperature range: Typical indoor temperatures of 18–26°C. Keep both plants away from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.
Growth and characteristics
- Plant species: Ficus elastica ‘Melany’ and Alocasia wentii
- Approx. size at delivery: Ficus ↕85 cm (Ø21 cm), Alocasia ↕60 cm (Ø19 cm)
- Leaf type: Ficus with thick, oval, glossy leaves; Alocasia with broad, upright, arrow-shaped leaves
- Growth speed: Moderate growth in spring/summer with stable light; slower in winter
Placement in the home
Place the Ficus slightly back in the room where it can receive steady, indirect daylight—next to a sofa, by a sideboard, or in a bright corner. The Alocasia works well closer to the window (still out of direct sun) where its larger leaves have space to open fully. This combination is particularly suited to living rooms, open-plan kitchens, and home offices where you want greenery without overcrowding the space.
Care tips
Watering: Always let excess water drain from the nursery pot before placing it back into the basket. This helps prevent root issues and keeps the woven cover in good condition.
Feeding: During the growing season (spring to early autumn), feed the Ficus about once per month and the Alocasia about twice per month with a balanced houseplant fertiliser. In winter, reduce feeding to around once every two months or pause if growth slows.
Leaf care: Wipe dust from leaves with a soft, damp cloth. This keeps the foliage looking clear and supports photosynthesis—especially important for the Ficus’ thicker leaves.
Rotation: Turn the pots a little every few weeks for even growth and a balanced shape.
