Ficus Elastica Tineke – Green, White
Plant description
Ficus elastica ‘Tineke’ (rubber plant) is a variegated indoor plant known for its thick, glossy leaves with layered tones of green, creamy white and a soft pink blush on new growth. Delivered at approximately 60 cm tall in a Ø17 cm nursery pot, it offers a calm, architectural shape that suits modern Scandinavian interiors without demanding intensive care.
The plant grows upright with a sturdy central stem and broad, oval leaves that hold their form well. The variegation is naturally irregular, which gives the foliage a composed but distinctive pattern. Indoors, the Ficus elastica is grown for its leaves rather than flowers, making it a reliable choice for year-round greenery in living rooms, home offices and bedrooms.
Plant care
- Light requirements: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Tolerates light shade, but growth and variegation are best near a window with filtered light. Avoid strong direct sun, which can scorch pale areas of the leaves.
- Watering routine: Water when the top 2–4 cm of soil feels dry. In winter, allow the pot to dry a little more between waterings as growth slows.
- Humidity preferences: Average indoor humidity is suitable. If the air is very dry (common in heated homes), occasional misting or placing the pot on a pebble tray can help keep leaf edges looking neat.
- Temperature range: Prefers stable indoor temperatures around 18–26°C. Keep away from cold drafts and avoid prolonged exposure below ~15°C.

Placement in the home
Place your rubber plant where it receives bright, indirect daylight—near an east- or west-facing window, or a little back from a south-facing window with a sheer curtain. Its upright form works well on the floor beside a sofa, in a reading corner, or on a low stool or plant stand. In an office, it provides structure without taking over the room; in a hallway, choose a spot that still receives natural light.
Care tips
Rotate the pot every few weeks for even growth and a balanced silhouette. Wipe leaves with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust and keep the natural sheen—this also helps the plant photosynthesise efficiently. Use a pot with drainage (or keep it in the nursery pot inside a cachepot) and never leave the roots standing in water. If you want a fuller plant, pinching the growing tip in spring can encourage branching.
