Ficus Exotica – Green, Braided Trunk

Regular price €428,85

Ficus Exotica is a live indoor ficus tree with a dense crown of small, glossy green leaves and a distinctive braided trunk. Delivered at approximately 120 cm tall in a Ø30 cm nursery pot, it gives you instant height and greenery without needing a large footprint. The braided stems add structure and a calm, architectural look that suits Scandinavian interiors and modern, pared-back spaces.

The foliage is naturally lush and slightly drooping, creating a soft outline that works well against light walls and natural materials. As with many ficus varieties, it prefers a stable spot: once it settles in, it will keep its shape and grow steadily. If you’re looking for an indoor tree that reads clean and minimal rather than wild and sprawling, Ficus Exotica is a reliable choice.

Plant care

  • Light requirements: Bright, indirect light is ideal. It tolerates light shade, but avoid strong direct midday sun, which can scorch leaves.
  • Watering routine: Water when the top 2–4 cm of soil feels dry. Keep the soil lightly and evenly moist, but never waterlog; empty excess water from any outer pot or saucer.
  • Humidity preferences: Moderate humidity. In dry homes (especially in winter), mist occasionally or wipe leaves with a damp cloth to keep them clean.
  • Temperature range: 18–25°C. Keep away from cold draughts, radiators, and sudden temperature changes.

Growth and characteristics

  • Plant species: Ficus (commonly sold as Ficus Exotica; visually similar to ficus benjamina types)
  • Approx. size at delivery: ↕120 cm, pot Ø30 cm
  • Leaf type: Small to medium glossy leaves on fine branches; dense, rounded crown
  • Growth habit: Upright woody stems with braided trunk; moderate growth in spring and summer with the right light

Placement in the home

Place your indoor ficus tree where it receives steady daylight—near a window with filtered light, or a few steps back from a south-facing window. It works particularly well in a living room corner, beside a sofa, in an open hallway, or near a dining area where you want vertical greenery without clutter. Rotate the pot a quarter turn every couple of weeks for balanced growth.

Care tips

  • Feeding: Use a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser about every 4 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer).
  • Repotting: Repot every few years in spring, moving to a slightly larger pot with fresh, well-draining houseplant soil.
  • Leaf drop: Some leaf drop after moving is normal. Keep light and watering consistent and avoid frequent relocation.
  • Safety: Ficus is toxic if ingested; place out of reach of pets and small children.
