Ficus Goldenking Variegated – Green
Plant description
Ficus Goldenking (commonly sold as Ficus benjamina ‘Golden King’) is a compact indoor tree with small, pointed leaves edged in warm yellow-green. Delivered at approximately 60 cm tall in a Ø17 cm nursery pot, it brings structured greenery to calm interiors without taking up much floor space. The plant has a slim, woody stem and naturally forms a light, layered canopy that works well in Scandinavian homes where you want greenery with a clean outline.
The variegated foliage is what sets this ficus apart from standard green weeping figs. The pale margins catch daylight and soften corners, while the deeper green centre keeps the overall look grounded. Like most ficus, it prefers stability: consistent light, even watering, and a spot away from cold drafts help it settle quickly after delivery.
Plant care
- Light requirements: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Tolerates medium light, but growth slows and variegation can become less distinct. Avoid strong midday sun that may scorch the lighter leaf edges.
- Watering routine: Water when the top 3–5 cm of soil feels dry. Water thoroughly, then allow excess water to drain. Do not leave the pot standing in water.
- Humidity preferences: Moderate humidity is suitable. In very dry homes (especially in winter), occasional misting or placing the pot near other plants can help keep leaf edges looking fresh.
- Temperature range: Best between 18–26°C. Keep away from cold windows, radiators, and drafty doorways; sudden changes can cause leaf drop.

Placement in the home
Place this ficus where it gets steady, filtered daylight—near an east- or west-facing window is often ideal. It suits a living room corner, beside a bookshelf, or on a low plant stand where the foliage can sit at eye level. In open-plan spaces, it works well as a soft divider without feeling heavy. Avoid spots close to exterior doors or frequently opened windows, as drafts are a common reason ficus drop leaves.
Care tips
Allow the plant time to adjust after moving; a small amount of leaf drop is normal when conditions change. Rotate the pot every few weeks for even growth. Wipe leaves with a damp cloth to keep them dust-free and to help the plant photosynthesise efficiently. Prune lightly in spring to maintain a neat shape and encourage branching. If you have pets or small children, note that ficus sap can be irritating if ingested or if it comes into contact with skin.
