Ficus Lyrata – Glossy Green, Tree Form
Plant description
Ficus lyrata (commonly known as the fiddle-leaf fig) is a sculptural indoor tree with large, violin-shaped leaves in a deep, glossy green. Delivered at approximately 100 cm tall in a Ø21 cm plastic nursery pot, it offers vertical greenery without taking up much floor space—ideal for calm, modern interiors where you want height and structure.
The plant in the image shows a slim, upright stem with evenly spaced foliage and pronounced leaf veining. New growth appears lighter green and gradually deepens in colour as the leaves mature. Like many ficus varieties, it prefers a stable position; consistent light and watering help keep the leaf set full and reduce leaf drop.
Plant care
- Light requirements: Bright, indirect light is best. A few hours of gentle morning or late-afternoon sun is usually fine; avoid harsh midday sun close to the glass if leaves show scorch marks.
- Watering routine: Water thoroughly when the top 3–5 cm of soil feels dry. Let excess water drain fully; do not leave the pot standing in water.
- Humidity preferences: Moderate humidity. It copes well in most homes, but benefits from occasional misting or a humidifier in very dry rooms (especially in winter).
- Temperature range: 18–26°C is ideal. Keep away from cold drafts and heat sources such as radiators or underfloor heating vents.

Placement in the home
Place your Ficus lyrata where it receives steady daylight—near an east- or west-facing window is often ideal. In a living room, it sits well beside a sofa, a low sideboard, or in an empty corner that needs height. In a hallway, choose a bright spot away from frequently opened exterior doors to avoid temperature swings. In a home office, position it near a window for strong growth while keeping it out of direct heat from computers and radiators.
Care tips
Rotate the pot slightly every week or two to keep growth balanced. Wipe the leaves with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust and help the plant photosynthesise efficiently—this also keeps the natural gloss visible. If lower leaves drop, review light levels and watering frequency; leaf drop is most commonly caused by low light, overwatering, or sudden changes in placement. During spring and summer, a balanced houseplant feed once a month can support stronger growth.
Please note: Plants are living products and may vary in shape and fullness from the photos.
