Ficus Lyrata Fiddle Leaf Fig – Green
Plant description
Ficus lyrata (Fiddle-leaf fig) is a sculptural indoor tree known for its large, violin-shaped leaves with a deep green gloss and clear veining. This plant is delivered at approximately 90 cm tall in a Ø21 cm grower’s pot, making it an easy scale for small to medium rooms where you want height without a wide footprint.
The upright growth and clustered foliage create a clean, architectural silhouette that suits calm, pared-back interiors. Leaves are thick and slightly textured, and new growth typically appears lighter green before deepening as it matures. Like most ficus, it prefers stable conditions and repays consistent care with steady, handsome growth.
Plant care
- Light requirements: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Tolerates medium light, but growth will slow. Avoid harsh midday sun close to the glass, which can scorch leaves.
- Watering routine: Water thoroughly when the top 3–5 cm of soil feels dry. Let excess water drain away; do not leave the pot standing in water.
- Humidity preferences: Moderate humidity is sufficient. In very dry homes, occasional misting or placing the pot near other plants can help reduce leaf edge browning.
- Temperature range: 18–26°C. Keep away from cold draughts and sudden temperature changes, especially in winter.

Placement in the home
Place your Ficus lyrata near a bright window with filtered light—ideal in a living room corner, next to a sofa, or by a dining area where it gets daylight without direct midday sun. In a hallway or bedroom, choose the brightest position available. Rotate the pot slightly every few weeks to keep the plant growing evenly toward the light.
Care tips
Consistency matters. Ficus plants can drop leaves if moved frequently or exposed to cold air. Choose a steady spot and let it settle. Use a well-draining potting mix (a standard houseplant soil improved with perlite works well). Feed every 4–6 weeks during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertiliser at half strength.
Keep the leaves clean. Wipe with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust—this helps the plant photosynthesise efficiently and keeps the foliage looking crisp. If you repot, move up one pot size at a time and ensure your outer pot has space for drainage. Note: Ficus lyrata sap can be irritating and the plant is not edible; keep out of reach of children and pets if they tend to chew plants.
