Ficus Panachee Ficus Carica – Green
Plant description
Ficus ‘Panachée’ is a young fig tree (Ficus carica) with fresh green, lobed leaves and an upright, lightly branching habit. Delivered at approximately ↕40 cm in a Ø15 cm growers pot, it is an easy way to start a compact fruit tree for the windowsill, a bright corner, or a sheltered terrace as the season warms.
‘Panachée’ (often known as a striped fig) is valued for its ornamental look as much as its harvest potential. Even at this early stage, the plant has the characteristic fig silhouette: a slim trunk, distinct leaf shape, and a clean, architectural outline that sits comfortably in calm Scandinavian interiors. With the right light and steady care, it can develop into a productive patio plant over time.
Plant care
- Light requirements: Bright light with several hours of sun is ideal. A south- or west-facing window suits indoor growing; acclimatise gradually when moving outdoors.
- Watering routine: Water thoroughly, then allow the top 2–4 cm of soil to dry before watering again. Reduce watering in winter when growth slows. Avoid leaving the pot standing in water.
- Humidity preferences: Average indoor humidity is sufficient. If air is very dry, occasional misting and keeping the plant away from direct radiator heat helps leaf quality.
- Temperature range: Best at 18–26°C during the growing season. Protect from cold drafts and keep above 10–12°C; avoid frost.
Growth and characteristics
- Plant species: Ficus carica ‘Panachée’ (fig tree)
- Approx. size at delivery: ↕40 cm, pot Ø15 cm
- Leaf type: Deciduous, lobed leaves with a structured, slightly textured surface
- Growth speed: Moderate in bright light and warmth; stronger growth in spring and summer
Placement in the home
Place your fig where it can receive strong daylight. Indoors, a bright windowsill or a spot close to a large window works well. If you have a balcony or terrace, the plant benefits from spending late spring to early autumn outdoors in a sheltered position—wind protection helps prevent leaf damage. Rotate the pot occasionally to keep growth even.
Care tips
Use a well-draining potting mix and consider repotting into a slightly larger container when roots fill the growers pot. Choose a pot with drainage holes and a saucer to protect surfaces. During the growing season, a balanced fertiliser every 2–4 weeks supports steady development. Prune lightly in late winter or early spring to encourage branching and maintain a compact shape. If leaves drop in autumn, this is normal for many fig trees as light levels fall.
