Ficus Tineke Rubber Plant – Green, Cream
Plant description
Ficus Tineke (a variegated Ficus elastica, commonly called the rubber plant) is a dependable indoor plant with thick, oval leaves in muted green with creamy margins and pale veining. Delivered at approximately ↕85 cm in height and grown in a Ø27 cm nursery pot, it offers a full, upright shape that sits comfortably in calm, modern interiors without demanding constant attention.
The foliage is naturally glossy and firm to the touch, with a subtle pink-to-reddish midrib on newer growth. This contrast is what many people look for when searching for a “variegated rubber plant” that still feels restrained and easy to style. As the plant matures, it develops a sturdier, tree-like structure and can be kept compact with light pruning.
Ficus Tineke is often chosen for homes and offices because it copes well with typical indoor conditions. It prefers steady care rather than frequent change: consistent light, moderate watering, and a stable spot away from cold drafts.
Plant care
- Light requirements: Bright, indirect light is ideal to maintain strong variegation. It will tolerate medium light, but growth may slow and leaf contrast can soften. Avoid harsh, direct midday sun, which can scorch the pale areas.
- Watering routine: Water thoroughly when the top 3–5 cm of soil feels dry. Let excess water drain away and avoid leaving the pot standing in water to reduce the risk of root rot.
- Humidity preferences: Average indoor humidity is suitable. If the air is very dry (common in winter), occasional misting around the plant or a nearby humidity tray can help keep leaf edges neat.
- Temperature range: Best at 18–24°C. Keep above 10°C and away from cold windows, radiators, and draughty doorways.
Growth and characteristics
- Plant species: Ficus elastica ‘Tineke’
- Approx. size at delivery: ↕85 cm, pot Ø27 cm
- Leaf type: Thick, oval, glossy leaves with green and cream variegation
- Growth speed: Moderate in spring and summer with sufficient light
Placement in the home
Place Ficus Tineke where it receives bright, filtered daylight: a living room corner near an east- or west-facing window, beside a dining area, or in a well-lit hallway. In offices, it works well a short distance from large windows, where it adds greenery without taking up floor space like wider plants. Rotate the pot a quarter turn every few weeks for even growth and a balanced silhouette.
Care tips
Wipe the leaves occasionally with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust and keep the natural shine. Feed with a balanced houseplant fertiliser monthly during spring and summer, then reduce or pause in autumn and winter. If you want a bushier plant, pinch back the growing tip in the growing season. Note: Ficus Tineke is toxic if ingested; keep out of reach of children and pets.
