Houseplant Set – Ficus Elastica, Alocasia

Regular price €26,95

Plant description

This indoor plant set pairs Ficus elastica ‘Melany’ (approx. ↨85 cm, Ø21 cm) with Alocasia wentii (approx. ↨60 cm, Ø19 cm) for balanced, architectural greenery. The Ficus brings dense, upright structure with thick, dark leaves, while the Alocasia adds broad, shield-like foliage on sturdy stems. Both arrive as live plants in grower (nursery) pots, ready to place into decorative planters if you prefer a more finished look.

Visually, this combination works well in calm interiors: the Ficus ‘Melany’ stays neat and compact compared to many rubber plants, and the Alocasia wentii offers a softer, tropical silhouette without looking messy. Together they suit modern Scandinavian rooms where you want greenery with clear form—ideal for corners, next to a sofa, or near a bright window with filtered light.

Plant care

  • Light requirements: Bright, indirect light is ideal for both plants. They tolerate medium light, but growth will be slower. Avoid harsh, direct midday sun on the leaves.
  • Watering routine: Water when the top 2–4 cm of soil feels dry. Ficus prefers to dry slightly between waterings; Alocasia prefers more even moisture. Always empty excess water from the cachepot/saucer.
  • Humidity preferences: Moderate to higher humidity. Alocasia appreciates higher humidity (especially in winter with heating); Ficus is adaptable but benefits from steady indoor humidity.
  • Temperature range: 18–26°C. Keep away from cold drafts and avoid temperatures below 15°C.

Growth and characteristics

  • Plant species: Ficus elastica ‘Melany’ & Alocasia wentii
  • Approx. size at delivery: Ficus ↨85 cm in Ø21 cm pot; Alocasia ↨60 cm in Ø19 cm pot
  • Leaf type: Ficus—thick, glossy, oval leaves; Alocasia—large, arrow/shield-shaped leaves with a strong midrib and a slightly matte finish
  • Growth speed: Moderate in the growing season with stable light and watering; slower in winter

Placement in the home

Place the Ficus slightly back in the room where it gets bright, indirect light—perfect beside a bookcase, a sideboard, or in a living room corner. Position the Alocasia where light is gentle but consistent, such as near an east- or north-facing window, or a few metres from a brighter south-facing window. If you group them, leave a little space around the leaves for airflow and easy watering.

Care tips

For a tidy look: rotate each plant a quarter turn every week or two to keep growth even. Wipe Ficus leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust and support photosynthesis.

Feeding: during spring and summer, feed monthly for the Ficus and every two weeks for the Alocasia with a balanced houseplant fertiliser at a gentle dose. Reduce feeding significantly in winter.

Common concerns: yellow leaves often indicate overwatering or cold drafts; crisp edges on Alocasia can point to low humidity or irregular watering. Use a well-draining indoor plant potting mix and ensure your decorative pot allows excess water to be removed.
