Plant description

Crassula ‘Tarantula’ is a compact succulent with dense rosettes of grey-green leaves and a distinctive, soft, velvety surface. Delivered in a Ø9 cm terracotta pot, it’s an easy indoor plant for shelves, windowsills, and small spaces where you want greenery that stays neat and controlled. The plant’s thick, fleshy leaves store water, which makes it well suited to a busy routine and warm, dry rooms.

In the image, the ‘Tarantula’ grows as a clustered mound of short stems topped with tight leaf rosettes. The leaves are narrow and pointed with a matte, almost felted texture that reads calm and understated in Scandinavian interiors. The warm terracotta pot adds a practical benefit too: it is breathable and helps the soil dry evenly—useful for succulents that dislike sitting in moisture.

Plant care

  • Light requirements: Bright light is best. A sunny windowsill with a few hours of gentle direct sun (morning or late afternoon) supports compact growth and good colour. In low light, growth may become looser.
  • Watering routine: Water thoroughly, then let the soil dry out completely before watering again. In winter, water sparingly. Avoid frequent small sips—succulents prefer a soak-and-dry rhythm.
  • Humidity preferences: Low to moderate humidity. Normal indoor air is ideal; no misting needed.
  • Temperature range: Typical indoor temperatures 18–26°C. Keep above 10–12°C and away from cold draughts.

  • Plant species: Crassula (cultivar ‘Tarantula’)
  • Approximate size at delivery: Grown in a Ø9 cm pot; typically compact and low, suited to small surfaces
  • Leaf type: Thick, fleshy leaves with a soft, velvety texture; grey-green tone

Placement in the home

Place Crassula ‘Tarantula’ where it can receive strong daylight: a kitchen windowsill, a bright bedroom shelf, or a living room sideboard near a window. It also works well on desks in bright home offices because it stays compact and does not require frequent care. If you group succulents together, leave a little space around the plant so air can circulate and the soil dries properly.

Care tips

Use a free-draining cactus/succulent soil or add extra grit/perlite to standard potting soil. Always empty excess water from any outer cachepot after watering. If the leaves begin to soften, it often indicates the plant has been watered too frequently; if growth stretches and spaces out, it usually needs more light. Rotate the pot occasionally for even growth, and brush dust from the leaves gently with a dry, soft cloth.
