Phalaenopsis Moth Orchid – Orange Blooms

Plant description

This orange Phalaenopsis (moth) orchid is a flowering indoor plant delivered in a compact Ø9 cm decorative pot with a calm, retro profile. The plant has arching flower spikes with warm orange blooms and unopened buds, set above a base of thick, deep-green leaves. At delivery it measures approximately 35 cm in height, making it easy to place on a windowsill, sideboard, or desk without taking over the room.

The decorative pot has a ribbed surface and a muted khaki/beige tone that works well with light woods, stone, and neutral textiles. The clean vertical lines give the arrangement a structured look, while the orange flowers add colour in a controlled, Scandinavian way—present, but not loud. The orchid is supplied as a live plant; the number of flower spikes can vary slightly, typically 2–3 sturdy branches depending on availability.

Plant care

  • Light requirements: Bright, indirect light. A spot near an east or west-facing window is ideal. Avoid strong midday sun on the blooms and leaves.
  • Watering routine: Water about once a week. Remove the inner growing pot and soak it briefly in room-temperature water, then let it drain thoroughly before placing it back into the decorative pot. Water less in winter if the mix stays moist longer.
  • Humidity preferences: Moderate humidity suits Phalaenopsis well. In very dry homes, place it away from radiators and consider a pebble tray nearby (without the pot standing in water).
  • Temperature range: Typical indoor temperatures of 18–26°C. Keep away from cold drafts and direct heat sources such as stoves or heaters.

Growth and characteristics

  • Plant species: Phalaenopsis orchid (moth orchid)
  • Approx. size at delivery: Around 35 cm tall; pot size Ø9 cm
  • Flowers: Orange blooms with additional buds that open gradually
  • Growth habit: Slow-growing; flowers typically last for weeks when kept in stable conditions

Placement in the home

Place the orchid where you pass by often—on a kitchen windowsill with filtered light, a living room shelf, or a bedside table that stays warm but not hot. It’s also a reliable choice for home offices because it stays tidy and upright, even in smaller spaces. Keep it a little back from the glass in winter to avoid cold stress, and away from fruit bowls (ripening fruit can shorten flowering).

Care tips

Good drainage is the main difference between a thriving orchid and a struggling one. Always let excess water run off after soaking so the roots can breathe. If the plant is in bloom, avoid splashing water into the crown (the centre of the leaves). When flowering finishes, keep the plant in the same bright spot; with steady care, Phalaenopsis often re-blooms from an existing spike or a new one over time.
