Plant description

This ready-planted orchid bowl combines three orange Phalaenopsis (Hummingbird) orchids with three compact Rhipsalis plants in a smooth ceramic dish with a built-in water reservoir. With an approximate height of 35 cm, it is designed as a single, finished arrangement that brings colour and greenery to a table or sideboard without the usual maintenance of individual inner pots.

The orchids add clean, arching stems with warm orange blooms and glossy green leaves, while the Rhipsalis fills the base with a fresh, textured green. The ceramic bowl has a calm, minimal look and sits on small feet, giving the arrangement a light, lifted profile. Inside, an inlay creates a water reservoir and the orchids are supplied via water wicks, helping to keep moisture more consistent and reducing how often you need to lift plants out for watering.

Plant care

  • Light requirements: Bright, indirect light is ideal. A few hours of gentle morning or late-afternoon sun is fine; avoid strong midday sun on the orchids.
  • Watering routine: Keep the reservoir topped up as needed and let the wicks do the work. As a guideline, check the water level weekly; refill when low rather than keeping it constantly full. Avoid leaving the roots sitting in water—steady moisture, not soaking, supports longer-lasting blooms.
  • Humidity preferences: Normal indoor humidity suits both plants. In very dry rooms (especially during winter heating), occasional light misting around the foliage (not into the orchid crown) can be helpful.
  • Temperature range: Typical indoor temperatures of 18–26 °C. Keep away from cold drafts, radiators, and fruit bowls (ethylene can shorten flowering).

Growth and characteristics

  • Plant species: Phalaenopsis orchids (orange flowering) and Rhipsalis (green trailing cactus).
  • Approximate size at delivery: Around 35 cm tall overall.
  • Leaf or flower type: Phalaenopsis with long-lasting blooms on upright stems; Rhipsalis with fine, segmented stems that create a soft, sculptural base.
  • Growth speed: Moderate. Orchids typically flower for weeks to months; Rhipsalis slowly fills out over time in stable conditions.

Placement in the home

Place the bowl where you can enjoy the flowers up close: on a dining table, kitchen island, hallway console, or a living-room side table. Choose a spot with bright daylight but no harsh sun through glass. If you use it on a table, the footed bowl helps protect the surface by reducing contact area; using a coaster or mat is still recommended for sensitive wood.

Care tips

Remove spent orchid flowers as they fade and keep the leaves dust-free with a soft, slightly damp cloth so the plants can photosynthesise efficiently. When refilling the reservoir, use room-temperature water. If the top growth looks dry while the reservoir still contains water, check that the wicks are correctly positioned and making contact with the moisture source. Rhipsalis prefers to dry slightly between waterings, so aim for a modest water level rather than constant saturation.
