Phalaenopsis Orchid, Rhipsalis Set – Purple, Green
Plant description
This ready-made plant arrangement combines three purple Phalaenopsis (Morelia) orchids (9 cm pots) with three Rhipsalis green plants (6 cm pots), set in a natural reed basket with a discreet built-in water reservoir and wick system. Delivered at an approximate height of 35 cm, it is designed for calm interiors where you want real flowering colour without daily maintenance.
The orchids bring compact, arching stems with multiple buds and open blooms in a clear purple tone, supported by deep green, oval leaves. Between them, the Rhipsalis adds a soft, trailing texture that breaks up the silhouette and gives the arrangement a more natural, layered look. The woven reed basket keeps the expression warm and understated, suitable for Scandinavian spaces and natural materials.
The integrated reservoir and water wicks reduce how often you need to lift the plants out for watering. Instead, the plants can draw up moisture as needed, helping to keep watering more consistent—particularly useful if you travel or prefer a simpler routine.
Plant care
- Light requirements: Bright, indirect light is ideal. A few hours of gentle morning or late-afternoon sun is fine; avoid strong midday sun on the orchids.
- Watering routine: Keep the reservoir topped up in small amounts rather than flooding it. Allow the orchid medium to dry slightly between refills. If the basket feels constantly wet, pause refilling for a few days.
- Humidity preferences: Moderate humidity suits both plants. In very dry homes, place away from radiators and consider occasional misting around (not directly into) the flowers.
- Temperature range: Typical indoor temperatures 18–26°C. Avoid cold drafts and temperatures below 15°C.
Growth and characteristics
- Plant species: Phalaenopsis (Morelia) orchids + Rhipsalis
- Mature height: Orchids typically 40–70 cm in bloom (varies by stem); Rhipsalis trails as it grows
- Leaf or flower type: Waxy orchid blooms with sturdy green leaves; fine, segmented Rhipsalis stems
- Growth speed: Orchids are slow-growing; Rhipsalis is moderate and becomes fuller over time in good light
Placement in the home
Place the basket where it receives stable, indirect daylight: a sideboard in the living room, a dining table centrepiece, a hallway console with good ambient light, or a bright bedroom shelf. If positioned near a window, keep a little distance from the glass in winter and avoid hot sun in summer. The reed basket and compact footprint make it easy to style as a single, cohesive arrangement rather than multiple separate pots.
Care tips
After flowering, orchids can rebloom: cut the flower spike above a visible node if the stem remains green, or remove it at the base if it turns brown. Rotate the basket occasionally for even growth. Keep water away from the orchid crown (the centre of the leaves). For the Rhipsalis, aim for lightly moist soil; it prefers not to dry out completely for long periods. Remove faded blooms and yellowing leaves to keep the arrangement tidy.
