Plant description

Monstera deliciosa is a classic indoor foliage plant known for its large, glossy green leaves that gradually develop natural splits and openings as the plant matures. This plant is supplied in a Ø17 cm grower’s pot and measures approximately 55 cm in height at delivery (measured from the base of the pot). It is a reliable choice if you want a calm, architectural green presence that grows with your home over time.

In its younger stage, Monstera carries heart-shaped leaves with a smooth surface and a deep green tone. With steady light and a consistent routine, new leaves emerge larger, and the characteristic “fenestrations” become more pronounced. The plant has an upright, slightly spreading habit; as it grows, it may benefit from gentle support such as a moss pole or stake to guide the stems and encourage stronger leaf development.

Plant care

  • Light requirements: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Tolerates medium light, but growth will be slower. Avoid harsh direct midday sun, which can scorch the leaves.
  • Watering routine: Water when the top 2–4 cm of soil feels dry. Let excess water drain fully; do not leave the pot standing in water.
  • Humidity preferences: Moderate humidity suits it well. Average indoor humidity is usually fine; slightly higher humidity supports larger, more even leaves.
  • Temperature range: Typical indoor temperatures of 18–26°C are ideal. Avoid cold drafts and temperatures below ~15°C.

Growth and characteristics

  • Plant species: Monstera deliciosa
  • Approx. size at delivery: ↕55 cm, pot size Ø17 cm
  • Leaf type: Large, glossy leaves; fenestrations develop with age and good light
  • Growth speed: Moderate; stronger growth in spring and summer with consistent care

Placement in the home

Place your Monstera in a bright living room, a calm bedroom corner, or near a dining area where it receives filtered daylight. A position 0.5–2 metres from a window is often a good balance, especially in Nordic light conditions. If placed in lower light (for example, farther into the room), expect fewer new leaves and less pronounced leaf splitting.

Care tips

Turn the pot a little every few weeks to keep growth even. Wipe the leaves with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust and help the plant photosynthesise efficiently—especially during the darker months. Use a well-draining indoor plant mix and consider repotting when roots begin to circle the pot or grow out of the drainage holes. Feed lightly during the growing season with a balanced houseplant fertiliser, and reduce feeding in winter when growth slows.
