Monstera Deliciosa – Green, Fenestrated Leaves
Plant description
Monstera deliciosa is a tropical indoor plant known for its large, glossy green leaves with natural cut-outs (fenestrations). Delivered at an approximate height of 60 cm in a Ø19 cm plastic growing pot, it offers an established, leafy form that settles in quickly in the home. This is a live houseplant, so each plant will vary slightly in shape and leaf pattern—part of what makes Monstera a lasting, natural choice for calm interiors.
In its native habitat in Central and South America, Monstera grows as a climbing aroid, developing bigger leaves and deeper splits as it matures. Indoors it stays manageable with regular care, and it responds well to a stable routine: consistent light, even watering, and free-draining soil. If you want a green plant with architectural foliage that still feels soft and organic, Monstera deliciosa is a reliable option.
Plant care
- Light requirements: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Tolerates medium light, but growth will be slower and leaves may develop fewer splits. Avoid strong direct sun, which can scorch the foliage.
- Watering routine: Water when the top 2–4 cm of soil feels dry. In active growth (spring/summer) this is often 1–2 times per week depending on your home. Reduce in winter and water more sparingly.
- Humidity preferences: Moderate humidity suits it well. It appreciates slightly higher humidity, but adapts to normal indoor levels. Keep away from very dry, hot air from radiators.
- Temperature range: Typical indoor temperatures of 18–26°C. Avoid cold drafts and temperatures below about 15°C.
Growth and characteristics
- Plant species: Monstera deliciosa
- Approx. size at delivery: ↕60 cm, pot size Ø19 cm
- Leaf type: Large, heart-shaped leaves with natural splits and holes as the plant matures
- Growth habit: Upright and slightly spreading; can be trained to climb with a moss pole or stake
Placement in the home
Place your Monstera near a window with filtered light—such as a bright living room corner, beside a dining area window, or in a home office where it gets steady daylight without harsh midday sun. It also works well on the floor next to a low shelf or console, where the leaves have space to fan out. Rotate the pot every few weeks for even growth.
Care tips
Choose a planter with drainage (or keep the nursery pot inside a decorative cachepot and empty excess water after watering). Wipe dust from the leaves with a soft, damp cloth so the plant can photosynthesise efficiently. If you see yellowing lower leaves, it is often a sign of overwatering; if leaves curl or the soil dries out very quickly, water slightly more consistently. Note: Monstera is considered mildly toxic if chewed; keep out of reach of pets and small children.
