Plant description

Monstera deliciosa (also known as the Swiss cheese plant) is a tropical indoor plant loved for its large, glossy green leaves with natural splits and openings. This plant is delivered at an approximate height of 80 cm in a Ø21 cm nursery pot, styled with the Selin basket—a natural woven cover that gives the plant a calm, tactile finish suited to Scandinavian interiors.

The Monstera grows with upright stems and unfolding leaves that become more deeply fenestrated as the plant matures. Its strong silhouette works well when you want greenery with structure—without needing constant attention. The woven basket softens the look and makes it easy to place the plant straight into your home, whether you prefer a clean, minimal setting or a warmer, layered interior.

Plant care

  • Light requirements: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Tolerates medium light, but growth will be slower. Avoid harsh direct sun, which can scorch leaves.
  • Watering routine: Water when the top 3–5 cm of soil feels dry. In most homes this is roughly weekly in brighter months; reduce in winter. Always let excess water drain.
  • Humidity preferences: Moderate humidity. Adapts well to normal indoor air; occasional misting or a nearby humidifier helps in very dry rooms.
  • Temperature range: Best at 18–26°C. Keep away from cold drafts and avoid temperatures below 15°C.

Placement in the home

Place your Monstera in a bright living room, next to a sofa, on the floor beside a sideboard, or in a home office where it gets steady daylight without direct midday sun. A spot 1–2 metres from a south- or west-facing window (or closer to an east-facing window) is often a good balance. Rotate the plant every few weeks for even growth, as leaves naturally turn toward the light.

Care tips

Use a well-draining indoor plant soil and avoid leaving the pot in standing water—this is the most common cause of yellowing leaves. Wipe the leaves with a soft, damp cloth to keep them dust-free and able to photosynthesise efficiently. During the growing season, feed with a balanced houseplant fertiliser about once a month; reduce feeding in winter when growth slows.
