Plant description

Monstera deliciosa (often called the Swiss cheese plant) is a classic indoor plant known for its large, glossy leaves with natural splits and holes as it matures. This plant is delivered at an approximate height of 80 cm in a Ø21 cm nursery pot, paired with the included Mayk Gold decorative pot for a clean, finished look from day one.

In the image, the plant shows multiple sturdy stems and several mature, fenestrated leaves in a fresh green tone. The growth habit is upright with a slightly spreading form, making it well suited for corners, next to a sofa, or as a calm green element on a low bench or sideboard. Monstera deliciosa is also widely appreciated as an air-improving houseplant, adding greenery to everyday spaces without demanding care.

Plant care

  • Light requirements: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Tolerates medium light, but growth will be slower and leaves may develop fewer splits. Avoid strong, direct midday sun.
  • Watering routine: Water when the top 3–5 cm of soil feels dry. In most homes this is about once a week in the growing season and less often in winter. Empty any excess water from the pot to prevent root rot.
  • Humidity preferences: Moderate humidity is suitable. Higher humidity supports larger leaves and cleaner edges; occasional misting or a humidifier helps in dry indoor air.
  • Temperature range: Thrives at typical indoor temperatures, ideally 18–26°C. Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 15°C.

Growth and characteristics

  • Plant species: Monstera deliciosa
  • Approximate size at delivery: ↨80 cm, Ø21 cm pot size
  • Leaf type: Large, glossy, heart-shaped leaves that develop characteristic splits (fenestrations) with maturity
  • Growth speed: Moderate to fast in spring and summer with consistent light and watering

Placement in the home

Place your Monstera in a bright room where it receives filtered daylight—near an east- or west-facing window is often ideal. A few steps back from a south-facing window works well if direct sun is softened by a sheer curtain. In lower-light spaces such as a hallway, it will cope, but expect slower growth and smaller leaves.

To keep the plant balanced, rotate it slightly every couple of weeks; Monsteras naturally grow towards the light. If you want a more vertical habit over time, a moss pole or support stake can be added as it matures.

Care tips

Use a well-draining indoor plant mix and let the soil dry slightly between waterings—consistently wet soil is the most common reason Monsteras struggle. Wipe the leaves with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust and help the plant photosynthesise efficiently. Feed with a balanced houseplant fertiliser about twice a month in spring and summer; reduce to occasional feeding in winter when growth slows.
