Monstera Minima Rhaphidophora – Green
Monstera Minima (Rhaphidophora tetrasperma), often called the Monkey Leaf or “hole plant”, is a compact, fast-growing indoor plant with naturally split leaves. This plant is supplied in a Ø15 cm plastic nursery pot and measures approximately 25 cm in height at delivery. Its light, airy foliage makes it an easy choice for Scandinavian interiors where you want greenery without visual heaviness.
The leaves are smaller than a classic Monstera deliciosa, but the look is similar: fresh green, glossy, and cut with distinctive openings and deep lobes as the plant matures. The growth habit is naturally climbing and slightly trailing, which makes it ideal for styling on a shelf, letting it lean over the edge of a sideboard, or training it up a small moss pole for a more upright shape.
Plant care
- Light requirements: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Tolerates medium light, but growth will be slower. Avoid harsh direct midday sun, which can scorch the leaves.
- Watering routine: Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry. Keep the soil lightly moist, not wet. Reduce watering in winter when growth slows.
- Humidity preferences: Average indoor humidity is fine. Moderate humidity (especially in winter) supports larger, cleaner leaves; misting is optional.
- Temperature range: Prefers normal indoor temperatures, roughly 18–26°C. Keep away from cold drafts and temperatures below about 15°C.
Growth and characteristics
- Plant species: Rhaphidophora tetrasperma (commonly sold as Monstera Minima / Monstera Monkey Leaf)
- Approximate size at delivery: ↕25 cm, in Ø15 cm grow pot
- Leaf type: Green, split leaves with characteristic openings; new leaves emerge tightly rolled and unfurl as they mature
- Growth speed: Moderate to fast in the growing season with sufficient light and regular watering
Placement in the home
Place your Monstera Minima near an east- or west-facing window, or a little back from a south-facing window behind a light curtain. It works well on a living room shelf, a hallway console with daylight, or a home office where you want a calm, green presence. If you prefer a more structured look, add a simple support and guide the stems upward; for a softer feel, let the plant trail naturally from a higher surface.
Care tips
- Watering control: A pot with drainage (and an outer cachepot) helps prevent overwatering—one of the most common issues with Monstera-type plants.
- Feeding: During spring and summer, a balanced houseplant fertiliser every 4–6 weeks supports steady growth.
- Leaf care: Wipe the leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust so the plant can photosynthesise efficiently.
- Pet note: Like many aroid-type houseplants, it is generally considered irritating if ingested. Place out of reach of pets and small children.
